Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Terrance Ferguson misses Summer League due to FIBA clearance rules

Drafted 21st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Terrance Ferguson is currently unable to sign an NBA contract, or join the Thunder’s Summer League team competing in Orlando.

Ferguson, 19, completed one season of professional basketball overseas with the NBL’s Adelaide 36’ers to become eligible for this year’s NBA Draft. While some were surprised by Sam Presti’s choice of the 2016 McDonalds All-American, many nonetheless anticipated Ferguson’s Orlando OKC debut.

However, due to a crucial paperwork delay by FIBA, this debut might be sidetracked.

Though reports first announced that Ferguson was withholding for a larger percentage of his rookie deal, it is now known the former international player could miss his inaugural Summer League as he awaits a required clearance letter from FIBA to sign his rookie contract.

The Thunder experienced a similar backlog issue from the international basketball sanctioning organization before acquiring free-agent Norris Cole for the remainder of the 16-17’ season.
